The Nigeria Library Association (NLA), Borno State Chapter is the official body representing librarians, information professionals, and library advocates across Borno State. As a branch of the national Nigeria Library Association, we are committed to promoting professional development, ethical standards, knowledge sharing, and library advocacy within the state and beyond.
Founded in alignment with the objectives of the national NLA, the Borno State Chapter serves as a hub for both academic and practicing librarians across all library types—academic, public, school, special, and research libraries. We support innovation in information services, encourage continuous professional development, and actively contribute to the improvement of literacy, access to information, and educational advancement in Borno State.
Our activities include organizing seminars, workshops, capacity-building programs, and outreach projects to elevate the profile of librarianship. We also foster collaborations among library professionals, institutions, and stakeholders to build a more informed and empowered society.

Promote Local Professional Excellence
Organize workshops, seminars, and training to build the capacity of librarians in Borno State.
Support Library Development in Borno
Advocate for well-funded, equipped, and professionally managed libraries across schools, tertiary institutions, and public domains.
Encourage Networking and Collaboration
Foster partnerships among librarians, library schools, NGOs, educational institutions, and the national NLA.
Encourage Membership Participation
Involve all cadres of librarians including library educators, academic librarians, and early-career professionals in decision-making and programs.
Promote Ethical Practice and Inclusivity
Maintain high professional standards, encourage inclusivity, and safeguard the rights of users and practitioners.
1. Membership
Open to all qualified librarians, library educators, paraprofessionals, and students in Borno State.
Members must register with the state chapter and maintain good standing with the national body.
Annual dues must be paid to remain active and eligible for voting and benefits.
2. Code of Conduct
All members shall conduct themselves with integrity, respect, and professionalism.
Acts of misconduct will be handled by the disciplinary committee and may lead to warnings, suspension, or expulsion.
3. Meetings
Monthly or quarterly meetings will be held as scheduled by the state executive committee.
Annual State Conference and AGM will review activities and elect officers.
4. Elections
Elections for state chapter executives shall be held biennially.
Only financial members are eligible to vote or contest.
5. Relationship with National Body
The chapter shall align its programs with the national body’s goals and participate in NLA national conferences.
Reports of state activities and finances will be submitted to the national NLA as required.
6. Finance and Accountability
Transparent financial management will be maintained.
All funds must be used solely for NLA Borno’s activities with proper documentation and audits.
7. Amendments
Amendments to these regulations must be approved by at least two-thirds of members present at a general meeting.
